Prayer Week- Half Way
by Scott Hamilton on Wednesday, 1st February 2012
At Harvest Glasgow this week we have set aside the whole week for prayer. We do this a couple of times a year. They tend to be amongst the most fruitful things that we do as a church. It is a great thing to come before God in a way that underlines our total dependence upon God. We spent some time on Sunday thinking from Acts 4 on the uncommon power of a common prayer. We reminded ourselves that there are three things to bear in mind as we pray which are radically faith building: I know He reigns, I believe He wins and I need His help. You can listen to it here.
In the meantime take some time to ponder these things and how they relate to the way that you pray. Colossians 4: 2 says that we are to 'Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.' Are you setting yourself as a sign that you have surrendered yourself to God?
Set your course
Persistence in prayer is a clear call: busyness is a given, the benefits are greater
Be courageous & persevere unfaintingly
Set your mind
Prioritising prayer is a clear need.
Deciding and devoting is key to developing prayer
Set your heart
What we desire springs from the thing that inspires.
Let what inspires you about God flame a desire in you to get before God
Set a place
Preparation for prayer is a clear need
Find a place suited to prayer and a time dedicated for prayer.
So we just want to encourage you to set yourself and to keep going. If you are not involved yet, now would be a great time to do so. Remember our prayer night on Friday night, 8pm at the McCleary's house. E-mail [email protected] if you need help finding it or getting there.
