Vertical Church: Unapologetic Preaching
Another great Sunday worshipping together as a church family. Also, great to have Scott, Alison and the family back with us.
As part of the Harvest Fellowship, we are built on four pillars: Proclaiming the authority of Gods word without apology, lifting high the name of Jesus through worship, believing firmly in the power of prayer, and sharing the good news of Jesus with boldness. Over the next few weeks we'll be taking a closer look at each one, which I'm really looking forward to. This week, we unpacked the first pillar: unapologetic preaching.
Over the past six years that I've been coming to Harvest, the preaching has always been such a blessing. Each week the message will convict me, challenge me, or encourage me…or sometimes it'll hit me on all three levels. I liked what Scott said about how we need to get under preaching that will fill our hearts not simply our heads.
A few months back, Pastor James MacDonald tweeted:
God's word is not a buffet. We cannot pick and choose the parts we like.
How true is that statement? So appreciate that here at Harvest, we work through the scriptures verse by verse, and word for word. We don't skip over the challenging or convicting verses, but rather dig deep into them to draw our eyes upward.
Be praying this week not only for Scott, but for all the pastors in Harvest Bible Fellowship. Pray that as they preach, they would clearly proclaim what the bible says. Pray for them as they prepare each week that they would earnestly be in God's word. Pray that through their preaching, the Holy Spirit would be able to point out areas in each of our lives that need work. Pray they would be given the right words to say to allow God's Word to be pressed down into our hearts and lives. And pray that they would have patience as they not only apply a truth injection to our lives, but also anticipate any rejections that may come.
Don't forget to check out the new worship album by the Vertical Church Band…powerful stuff, you won't be disappointed.
Have a great week,
E
