Vertical Church: Undistracted Prayer
What a Sunday!! So great to celebrate our 3rd anniversary as a church family and encouraging to hear the ways God has been moving in peoples lives. Excited for all that the Lord has in store for us as a church in the years to come!
I'm not even sure where to start with regards to Scott's sermon, but one thing I know for sure is that it hit me square on and broke me…in a good way. Just reading the title of his sermon alone, "Undistracted Prayer", was enough to make me know that I was about to get hit with some pretty powerful stuff.
One thing the Lord has really been challenging me on as of late is my priorities and own desires. Sadly, I've been finding myself chasing my hearts desires over God…how backwards is that? When we get so focused on the horizontal things of life, it doesn't do us any good, but rather damage. The horizontal will alter our focus and then our prayers become heavy on our priorities and light on His praises.
So how is your prayer life? Are you focused on your own desires and bringing a wish list before God? Are you devoted to the world or distracted by human dispute?
I'll admit that I'm guilty of the above, but I am ready for a radical redirection in my prayer life…and that will begin on my knees before God. When we draw near to God, he will draw near to us and we will have the most peace, when we're most close, to the most high. So church, it's time to get vertical in our prayer…we are deficient, but God is sufficient. You in?
