How to Change Your Life in 2012
by Scott Hamilton on Friday, 30th December 2011
At the start of a New Year we all think about worthwhile things to commit to. We can aim to lose weight, exercise more, invest in family time better, make some significant life change to increase our contentment, take up a hobby blah, blah, blah...
Here is one thing that is guaranteed to change your life in this coming year. How about investing some time every day for 365 days in God's Word. 30 minutes every day- the same length of time as you would watch a soap or sitcom- to revolutionise how you engage with, face and function every day for 12 months. Laying a foundation of wisdom from God's Word that will bear fruit for a lifetime. Sold? Wondering where to start? Here are some links to some helpful places to get you started:
If you want to know our recommendation then we would encourage you to use the McCheyne Reading Plan. You can download a pdf of it here and D.A Carson Blogs through it here. With this plan you read through: the New Testament twice; the Psalms twice; the rest of the Old Testament once.
The Discipleship Journal Bible reading plan With this plan you read through the entire Bible once and there are “catch-up” days built in.
The Read through the Bible programme for shirkers and slackers Explained in case you were wondering
The Journey scripture reading plan
- One New Testament chapter
- Two Old Testament chapters
They also have a couple of features designed to help those of us who have trouble persevering through a schedule like this: (1) there are lots of reflection/catch-up days; (2) they have pulled from the daily plan some of the slower-paced, harder-to-understand books. These then become “Monthly Scripture Snapshots” that are to be speed-read, along with online videos and overviews to put these books in context. See their website for more resources related to this plan.
